Keep it sharp.
A tattoo is finished by the way you treat it. Here is the plan, from the first hour to the flight home.
The healing timeline
- First hours
Leave the wrap on
Keep the covering on for the time your artist tells you. Then wash gently with clean hands, mild soap and lukewarm water, and pat dry.
- Days 1 to 3
Clean and thin
Wash two or three times a day. Apply a very thin layer of the balm your artist recommends. The skin should breathe, not swim.
- Days 4 to 14
Leave it alone
Peeling and itching are normal. Do not scratch, pick or rub. Keep moisturising lightly.
- Week 3 and on
Protect it
The surface has closed but the skin is still settling. Once healed, use a high-factor sunscreen for life.
New ink and travel
Sun
Cover it. No direct Marrakech sun on fresh ink, and no sunscreen until the skin has healed.
Pool & sea
Stay out of pools, the sea and jacuzzis until it has fully healed, usually two to three weeks.
Hammam
No hammam, sauna or scrub on the area while it heals. Save it for the start of your trip.
Flights
Wear loose clothing, keep the area clean, and pack a small tube of your balm in your hand luggage.
Redness that spreads, heat, swelling or fever are not normal. See a doctor and send us a message.
